Mansplaining Heart Attacks

/Healthy Woman

Although everyone thinks heart disease is a man’s disease, cardiovascular disease actually kills more women than men. Yet everything we’ve been told about heart attacks, the chest pain, the arm tingling, is based on men’s heart attacks. Even when searching for an image of a heart attack on well-known image banks, we only find visuals of men. People are simply not equipped to recognize the distinct symptoms of women’s heart attacks. And it’s killing them. A series of posters featuring men "mansplaining" the death of a woman they lost. By taking a visually absurd approach, we call attention to a very real medical bias that is killing women around the world. And in doing so, we inspire people to learn the real signs and symptoms that women have.

about the craft

With caricaturing and distorted physiognomy, we are able to express a range of complex emotions and achieve a unique personality for the campaign.
The heart illustration delivers each character’s misguided explanation, while preventing him from doing further mansplaining.
Ragged copy tells the story of what really happened. Together with the stark color palette and hand-crafted technique, the urgency of the message is conveyed.
